Mistreatment of Afghans in Iran

  • by

In Iran, many Afghan migrants are being subjected to horrible treatment from the Iranian police, and we need to educate ourselves on these current issues. For years, Afghanistan has been considered unsafe for its citizens because of the many kidnappings, bombings, and even landmines present in the country. The citizens of Afghanistan have grown up seeing loved ones die right in front of them, so many will move to places like Iran for safer lives. However, while most Afghans are moving to Iran for a better life, many do not find sanctuary there. On June 5th, a video went viral on social media, and it had the Iranian police shooting at a car that had Afghans in it. After the car got shot, it exploded, killing three passengers and leaving five others injured. This isn’t the first time such an incident happened, as previously, 45 Afghan migrant workers were killed by Iranian border guards who forced them into a river. All of this has sparked outrage in the Afghan community, and rightfully so. In my opinion, I believe we should try our best to help the Afghan community and do what we can to educate others on what is happening to the 1 million Afghan refugees and migrants in Iran, who deserve better treatment.
