Ambassador Program

Ambassador Program

“Launching the Ambassador Program at my school has been such an amazing experience! From working with such an influential, student-run, non-profit to engaging in weekly political discussions, it’s been the best opportunity to expand our foreign policy knowledge. The possibilities and connections that come from the Ambassador Program are not only exciting, but limitless!”
Lisel N.

Chapter President at Masterman High School in Philadelphia, PA.

About the Program

The Ambassador Program is a new initiative from FPYC that began in September 2020. It is an effort to make FPYC an inclusive organization for high school students and teens from across the United States. While the organizational team at FPYC continues to grow, there are still hundreds of teens who want the opportunity to participate and make an impact in their communities with their writing and take on domestic, foreign, and public policy. The Ambassador Program allows these students to pursue their writing, passion for politics and policy, and community activism goals through nonpartisanship, debate, collaborative journalism, community event planning, exclusive webinars, and conscious connectivity on a large scale, overseen by the FPYC Ambassador Department team!

Curriculum Overview

So what is the Ambassador program? Each month, FPYC releases a packet to the chapters with monthly meeting discussion topics, writing prompts, challenge writing topics, games and activities to facilitate discourse in chapter meetings, and writing submission guidelines.

Individual chapter presidents are expected to interact with the curriculum packet to some extent, but there will be lots of room for individuality and free planning space for each chapter.

At the end of each month, each chapter will send in some type of writing piece or content submission as their monthly Content Submission to FPYC.

So what makes this program different? The Content Submission.

The Content Submission is the primary component of the Ambassador curriculum, and also what distinguishes the program. While individual chapters will be meeting once a week and engaging in debates, conversations, and policy-focused games, they will also be working on collaborative content submissions for FPYC. Each month, chapters will have the opportunity to send some type of content (can be an opinion editorial, article bias analysis piece, youtube video or segment, or a segment for the FPYC podcast) to be featured on the FPYC website or other content channels. These submissions can be collaborative within a chapter (everyone works together to design and produce a piece) or can be done by a small team or individual picked by the chapter for the month. If done by a small team or individually, the whole chapter is still expected to discuss the submission and its topic together/assist in research to some extent. This part of the curriculum teaches important skills throughout team work and collaborative output, team management and delegation, and using communication with others to explore new ways of thinking and expressing opinions within a chapter.
